Dredging
Mechanical dredging is the main focus of our business operations. Most of our dredging is completed during the fall and winter months, depending on the permit requirements and limitations. Mechanical dredging is done by excavating the mud from the dredge area and loading it into hopper barges. The hopper barge is then transported by push boat and offloaded into awaiting sealed triaxle dump trucks. After the material is loaded into the trucks, it is transported to an approved disposal site.

Permitting ASSISTANCE
Prior to the commencement of dredging, each customer must present a NJDEP and an Army Corps of Engineers dredge permit. This permit will determine how much material can be removed and where it should be transported for disposal.
Scarborough Marine Group is a venture of Scarborough Properties, a commercial real estate development company. Over 75 years of experience has allowed us to build working relationships with professional consultants. We will guide you through the permitting process with the help of the same environmental consultants we used on our own waterfront development projects. We encourage all customers to start on the permit application well in advance, as it can take months to obtain.

Financing
Through a vehicle of special tax assessments, a cooperative municipality can assist a homeowner’s association in financing their dredge project. The process generally requires a super majority of association members to want to pursue and pay for dredging. The municipality agrees to finance the dredging through a special tax assessment on the properties in the association. The additional tax has no effect on the other property owners and therefore has a realistic chance of being passed by the governing body.

Pilings and Docks
Scarborough Marine Group has the equipment and personnel to provide additional marine services such as piling removal and installation, and dock design, demolition and installation. Most recently, our crew took part in developing Harbour Cove Marina in Somers Point, NJ, Cape May Marina in Cape May, New Jersey and Brigantine Marina and Paddle Club in Brigantine, New Jersey.
